Other COSTS
In addition to potentially spending millions on new construction, the district has several additional financial obligations:
- The teacher’s pension fund contribution is estimated to go from 5.64% this year (2010/2011) to 24.24% by 2015. The data is from House Bill 2497.
- According to the PA Department of Education, the Carlynton School District carries the 12th HIGHEST tax burden out of the 500 school districts in Pennsylvania.
- The Carlynton District already has one of the highest millage rates in Allegheny county…higher than Fox Chapel’s and Upper St. Clair’s. A property in the Carlynton School district pays $2,415 in school tax on every $100,000 in assessed value. That’s over 2.4% of the home’s value every year to the school district in taxes.
Imagine our property tax bill INCREASE if we build a new elementary school while paying the mandated contributions to the state pension funds!
